give nature space, leave no trace

Be it cliffside forest or field, river beach or sea, usually for many hours and at times returning to the same spot. Capturing nature can be a challenge so be prepared to put in the time. In that fleeting moment a scene unfolds allowing me to capture that special image. Please remember the welfare of your subject always takes precedence over the creation of the image, always practice appropriate fieldcraft and remember to leave no trace.

after the storm

Below a single macro image from within a dense bamboo field. The weather was glorious however i hear the approaching overhead thunder, a crack of lightning and five minute downpour of summer rain. You can imaging my excitement as the air was filled with an electric charge, nowhere to run or hide now so i tough it out and wait for the magic. The rain stops as if a tap had been abruptly turned off where the sky clears to the former and glorious sunshine.

I see the tiny droplets no bigger than a pinhead glisten in front of me, the resilient bamboo leaf springs back up from the heavy rain previously dragged to the floor. No time to wait I quickly adjust a camera in manual mode, steady myself, compose the shot with a single frame. The pink-green vertical bar behind the leaf in fact a bamboo stem. It looks like a thick trunk however only an inch or so wide. It is amazing how depth of field can create such a spectacular and artistic illusion.
